Brief Job Description
The 2024-2025 Graduate Assistant will provide support to three of the department’s strategically important and ongoing projects. Each project and associated graduate assistant responsibilities are described below.
• Organize archival material suitable for display in the Innovation Suite space. A graduate assistant can assist both faculty and the archival team in Butler Library by helping to finalize the material to be showcased in the Parnes Family Creativity Collection and support the digitization and transformation of this material into formats that can be disseminated both in the space and virtually to the broader world. Additionally, the graduate assistant may provide broader support for the ongoing evolution of the innovation suite concept and related services that might be provided to the community.
• Research support and organizational assistance with proposed Doctor of Professional Studies in Creativity and Change Leadership. The Creativity and Change Leadership Department has a proposal under review with SUNY for a new degree, Buffalo State’s first doctoral program. When approved, plans must be put in place related to this new degree program, i.e., policies, student handbook, admissions process, etc. The graduate assistant would assist in supporting the development of such resources and systems.
• Systemization and organization. Assist with the systemization and organization of department resources and operations. This may include managing shared drives, developing manuals for department operations and policies, maintaining the department website, and identifying and opportunities for increased efficiency.
• Recruitment, promotion, and alumni engagement. In addition to the above projects, the graduate assistant will support the department’s efforts to promote its for credit educational programs and professional activities (i.e., workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) as well as pro-actively engage current students and alumni. This will entail the use of social media, website work, and other forms of communication.
Work approximately 20 hours per week. This appointment includes an in-state tuition waiver for up to nine credit hours per semester.
Required Qualifications
• Current or entering full-time (6 credit hours) matriculated graduate student at Buffalo State University.
• Demonstrated ability to complete projects with minimal supervision (i.e., self-management skills)
• Evidence of organizational skills and attention to detail
• Superb writing skills (i.e., communicates clearly and concisely, with minimal need for editing or oversight of written work)
• Excellent research skills (e.g., literature search, online search capabilities, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with website development and design
• Experience working with digital and/or virtual platforms
• Experience in the use of social media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Knowledge of the field of creativity (e.g., scholars, theories, principles, etc.)
