The Distance Education program is intended to serve students over the age of 21 wishing to earn their NYS High School Equivalency Diploma by means of passing the GED exam. The Distance Education (DE) Instructor is responsible for compiling packets of work for eligible students on a two-week block along with availability for up to three (3) hours a week of in-person tutoring. The DE Instructor should have a valid K-12 teaching certification or the ability to get an Adult Education certification through NYSED. 14 hours of professional development is required annually. Required activities include preparation of appropriate learning materials, communication with students regularly, reviewing student work and providing feedback, documenting teacher time, determining progress towards completion, and EPE Distance Education teacher training through the Regional Adult Education Network.
