Minimum Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and at least five years of successful teaching experience prior to appointment as principal.

Meet Louisiana state requirements for a Type A teaching certificate with authorization for Provisional Principal, School Principal, or Educational Leader 1 or 2 as stated in Bulletin 746 (revised).

Job Concepts

Reports to the Director of Education (also to the Facility Director on the ground where his/her school is located); administers the school in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education and OJJ policies.

Uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to maintain an effective learning climate and to promote the educational development of each student.

Plans and implements a program which creates an environment where teachers have the ability to design and implement a course(s) of study that enables students to learn and develop optimally.

    1. Presents a professional and well-groomed appearance at all times.

    2. Communicates in a professional manner with students, staff, supervisors, and other stakeholders.

    3. Avoids the use of sarcasm, undue criticism, inappropriate language and behavior, racial and/or ethnic slights when dealing with others.

    4. Assumes additional duties as requested by the Director of Education.

    5. Plans, organizes, and oversees the works of school staff.

    6. Work in a harmonious manner with staff, students, parents, other schools, and the public.

    7. Keep confidentiality of records, reports, and conversations.

    8. Has the physical stamina and emotional stability to work effectively under pressure, and keep all aspects of the job under control.
