Job Description:

Position Summary: Under supervision of Site Manager, responsible for drawing pediatric, adult and geriatric patients via utilizing proficient venipuncture skills and techniques according. Prepares samples for testing on offsite locations. Serve an independent resource to the staff, patients and clinical team. Perform in-charge responsibilities leading daily tasks, assignment, and answer questions about collection protocols. Assist with cost control by ensuring inventory is well maintained. Train new employees and assist with completion of competencies.

  1. Spin blood and prepare specimens in a timely manner in

preparation for courier pickup/laboratory testing.

  1. Perform dipstick urinalysis; urine pregnancy testing

and rapid strep testing; collect urine and throat culture

specimens and prepare for submission to the

Laboratory.

  1. Performs daily, weekly and monthly quality controls of

laboratory testing in accordance with Lahey and

manufacturer guidelines...

  1. Perform testing (i.e. electrocardiograms, spirometry testing,

vision and hearing testing and glucose monitoring.)

  1. Perform housekeeping, handle hazardous waste and keep

laboratory area fully stocked.

  1. Maintain log sheets for documentation of incoming and

outgoing specimens.

  1. Verbally report lab results to providers, and deliver

appropriate lab results reports when received from central laboratory.

  1. Maintain established departmental policies and procedures,

objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environment

and infection control standards.

  1. Achieves and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS)

certification through American Heart Association, according

to departmental standards (within one year).

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Phlebotomy Certification from an accredited agency as ASCP or NHA is highly preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Organized, accurate and detail oriented. Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and providers. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment required.

Experience: Minimum of five years of full time phlebotomy experience.

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is now offering up to a $5,000 signing bonus for our Senior Phlebotomist position.

Important Details:

Signing Bonuses are paid out in two payments. You will receive your first payment (half of the total amount) of upon completion of the first 30 days of hire and your second payment (half of the total amount) upon completion of 6 months of hire. The bonus payments will be paid on the next regular pay day following the date on which you become eligible for the bonus. All payments are subject to applicable taxes.

To be eligible:

• Current and former BILH candidates - restrictions apply. Employees within the BILH system are not eligible for the bonus or if you have been employed by a BILH entity within the last 12-months. Employee must be in good standing to receive the bonus at the time of payment.

• Signing Bonus is determined on a full-time status of 40 hours. Hours less than 40 hours will be prorated. Per Diem roles are not eligible.

• If you leave Lahey Hospital & Medical Center before your first anniversary you will pay back the signing bonus.
