Job Description
The Java Platform Group is looking for an experienced, passionated, and highly motivated Director of Software Development. Our team is responsible for delivering the Java platform that is used by millions of developers. We are looking for a seasoned leader with a thorough understanding of Java, programming language and API design. This is a unique opportunity to join a world-class team, to lead and contribute to a cutting-edge and industry leading programing platform. As part of the Java Platform team, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the success of Java, by managing the delivering of new language and platform features, encompassing everything from release delivery to runtime instrumentation, performance and debuggability. You will be managing development on OpenJDK - one of the most successful open-source projects. As a leader, you will be responsible to advance the Java platform thinking about reliability, scalability, resilience, security, and performance.

Responsibilities
We are looking for a Director of Software Development with expertise and passion in programing language and API design. You will be leading a development team responsible for solving complex problems in language design, core library, and API design. You will lead a large software development team and be responsible for major components of the Java platform, specifically in the area of the Java language and the JDK core libraries. You should be a programming language generalist, able to lead a diverse team, while being very hands-on, able to dive deep into many part of the stack and lower-level system interactions. You should value simplicity, work comfortably in a collaborative and agile environment.
Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
Providing leadership, direction and execution on the development of new Java platform features
Manage the development and release of new Java platform features
Manage the development on the OpenJDK open-source project
Representing the organization at the SVP level
Managing a geographically distributed development teams
Delivering large scale project on-time with high quality and security
Keeping a high operational bar and operation
Minimum Qualifications
• 15+ years’ experience in Java and managing and delivering large scale programing language platform features
• 15+ years of experience in managing large-scale organizations with multiple layers of management
• Strong knowledge of Java and the Java Development Kit (JDK).
• Strong knowledge of programing language, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Strong familiarity with programing language design
• Strong understanding of operating systems, threading, networking and file I/O.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
Demonstrated leadership and people management. Strong communication skills, thorough understanding of product development. MS/Ph.D degree or equivalent experience.

US: Hiring Range: from $120,300 to $291,900 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.

Paid sick leave: 72 hours of paid sick leave upon date of hire. Refreshes each calendar year. Unused balance will carry over each year up to a maximum cap of 112 hours.
