Posting Summary

The University of Vermont is seeking a proactive and dedicated Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion ( DEI ) for the Department of Residential Life. This role is crucial in advancing DEI efforts within the residential community of over 6,100 plus undergraduate students, working to create an inclusive and welcoming living and learning environment for all students. The Assistant Director will assist in developing and implementing DEI initiatives, support diverse student populations, and collaborate with various stakeholders to promote a culture of belonging. The Assistant Director of DEI position plays a critical role in the implementation of the strategic visioning, thinking, leadership, mission, and values of supporting the Inclusive Excellence Plan and the Division for DEI of The University of Vermont. Reporting to the Associate Director of Assessment and Strategic Initiatives and working directly with the Director for the Department of Residential Life on special initiatives that supports the overall visioning of DEI in the residential experience, the Assistant Director provides leadership and support for the residential student experience and staff through the development and creation of effective, intentional and innovative initiatives and campus partnerships aligned with our Common Ground values. This role will work to contribute to developing and ensuring an inclusive community residential experience for our more than 6,100 residential students.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Sociology, or related disciplines).

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work, preferably within a higher education or residential life setting.

  • Strong understanding of DEI principles and best practices.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Cultural competency and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty.

  • Experience in program development, implementation, and assessment.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment.

  • Effective working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and Internet tools required.

    Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel/Administration, Student Development Theory or in a relevant field related to DEI .

  • Experience with conflict resolution and crisis intervention.

  • Knowledge of student development theory and housing programs.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism and discretion

    Anticipated Pay Range $63,000-$74,000

    Other Information

    Special Conditions Weekend work required, Non-standard work hours required, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, Background Check required for this position
