Fairview Health Services HIM Representative II/Birth Registrar in Burnsville, Minnesota

Overview

Fairview Ridges Hospital is a 150 bed facility, located in Burnsville, MN.

This HIM Representative II/Birth Registrar postion collects data and electronically files birth records and other related documents within five days of the birth to comply with state statutes for vital records. Reviews patient records to abstract required data for preparation of the birth record. Educates parents of newborns on their legal rights and responsibilities associated with paternity establishment for unmarried parents. Provides witnessing services as a Notary Public to facilitate filing of Recognition of Parentage forms. Uses quality control techniques to validate information.

About this position:

  • 48 hours per pay period

  • This is a straight day shift (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

  • No weekends required, occasionally will require on call support.

  • Location: Burnsville, MN

Job Expectations:

In assigned HIM functional area:

Demonstrates experience with patient document intake and workflow priorities.

Performs review and QA process on scanned, prepped, and indexed documents prior to final posting in EHR.

Generates and monitors the deficiency notification process for medical record completion. Notifies appropriate staff and management when suspension of privileges occurs due to delinquent medical records.

Performs assigned Care Everywhere and chart audits to assure appropriate completion of medical record data elements.

Provides phone and front desk support.

Retrieves and distributes patient paper, microfilm, and microfiche charts to support patient care, and re-file charts and other documents.

Responds to written ROI requests in accordance with Fairview policy, federal, state, and other regulatory requirements including but not limited to including email, MyChart, and CBO requests, chart reviews and audits, and activities related to electronic exchange of health information.

Makes medical record documentation corrections including but not limited to dictations filed to the wrong encounter, and monitoring any associated error queues.

Assists with creating and editing forms to be included in the health record.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associates Degree in Health Information Management or related field, or comparable HIM work experience

  • HIT Degree, HIM-related certification, or two years of HIM experience

Preferred

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management

  • HIT degree and two years in Health Information Management

  • RHIT or RHIA
