SUMMARY - The Senior Product Engineer is responsible for the creation of technical and detailed design drawings using CAD software for new product designs. They are responsible for creating and evaluating first prototypes analytically and physically to ensure technical function. Building relationships and Mentoring Team Members will be Primary Functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • High level understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to include life cycle testing.

  • Manage and oversee projects, budgets, and vendors.

  • Establish and grow relationships with Suppliers, Marketing, Customer Service, and program managers.

  • Collaborate directly with Designers and Marketing to achieve new product goals.

  • Create and translate Solid Works Models and drawings into complete ERP setup for new products and to industry standards or as needed.

  • Develop methods of manufacture to serve as both process instruction and a basis for costing parts.

  • Create extensions and enhancements to existing product lines.

  • Conduct cost savings exercises.

  • Work safely and follow all company rules and procedures.

  • Work effectively with tooling, manufacturing engineering, and all manufacturing teams.

  • Travel to conduct research and learn new processes and help bring them to GRCC as needed.

  • Ability to perform hand calculations, and FEA with multiple parts.

  • Review existing Patents to help insure we are not violating any existing Patents.

  • Process ECNs as needed

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • 7-10 years’ experience in product design, preferably in furniture or automotive

  • Proven track record in product launch.

  • Proven track record of Program Management.

  • Deep understanding of FEA, including life cycle testing.

  • Proficient in Solid Works, Auto Cad, and Corel Draw preferred.

  • Physical testing experience.

  • Strong verbal abilities and good written and analytical skills

  • Deep understanding of wood, steel, aluminum, and welding and fastening.

  • 2D stack-ups knowledge and a proven working knowledge of GD & T.

  • Ability to work coach and mentor Product Engineers and others.

  • Ability to lead brainstorming sessions to generate multiple ideas, rank them, and try them.

  • Ability to create, and as needed amend processes for work.

  • Run Design of experiments and do Root Cause analysis, then offer suggestions for improvement.

  • Experience working on prototypes for validation.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and transfer knowledge across the organization, suppliers, and customers.

  • Good understanding of BIFMA standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment and run primary model reviews.

  • Experience in reviewing Patents.

  • Experience collaborating with Attorneys to create Patents.

  • Ability to lead exercises on the shop floor.

  • Understand Q.C. validation.

  • Understand Production Part Approval Process.
