Tax Accountant, Indirect Tax, Sales & Use Tax (SUT)

The Tax Accountant, Indirect Tax, Sales & Use Tax (SUT) is responsible for assisting with sales & use tax compliance for the Indirect Tax Department, including sales & use and transaction privilege tax filings, research, and audit support for 22 states and over 50,000 properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze monthly activity for sales & use tax vendor compliance and use tax liability by reviewing payment support and applying jurisdiction tax rules and regulations.

  • Prepare NC E589ci affidavits based on analysis of NC Capital Improvement rules; maintain tracker and liaise with vendors as needed.

  • Proactively identify Use Tax issues during vendor onboarding; update manager and liaise with internal or external stakeholders as needed.

  • Develop and maintain a basic understanding of AMH sales and use tax regulations.

  • Provide support to the Business Personal Property team on an as-needed basis.

  • Assist in providing support for SUT audits.

  • Undertake special projects assigned by the manager.

    Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.

  • At least two years of related experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Yardi/CRM is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Possesses strong attention to detail, organizational prowess, excellent follow-up skills, the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, effectiveness in collaborative project teams, and adaptability to shifting priorities.

In the states of Colorado, California, Washington, and Illinois; the anticipated pay range/scale for this position is $24.88/hr to $29.86/hr. Actual starting base pay within this range will depend on factors including geographic location, education, training, skills, and relevant experience.

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in medical, dental and vision insurance; flexible spending accounts and/or health savings accounts; dependent savings accounts; 401(k) with company matching contributions; employee stock purchase plan; and, a tuition reimbursement program. The Company provides 9 paid holidays per year and, upon hire, new employees will accrue paid time off (PTO) at a rate of 0.0577 hours of PTO per hour worked, up to a maximum of 120 hours per year.
