Overview
The Music Therapist I provides mental health services to students with multiple disabilities in a full day classroom setting. The Music Therapist uses music as a medium to assist students in meeting defined educational goals and objectives. Music therapy is specially designed to address the behavioral, psycho-social, emotional, communicative, physiological, sensory-motor, and cognitive needs of students.

Responsibilities
Provides individual/group therapy for children employing music therapy interventions & techniques.
Maintains up-to-date records of contact, including nature of intervention, periodic reports and termination summaries.
Consults with community and other Kennedy Krieger professionals as necessary.
Maintains positive communication in a professional demeanor with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed. Maintains documentation of all contacts.
Provides evaluations of children as necessary.
Participates in classroom team meetings, mental health team meetings, and IEP meetings as needed.
Assist with supporting the school mission and goals in a positive and professional manner with a student centered school culture and climate as designed by the administration as specified in school and KKI policies and procedures.
Qualifications
*Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
*Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
EDUCATION:
B.A. Music Therapy and/or B.A. in similar field with equivalency in Music Therapy
Music Therapist Board Certified (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) or eligible for the Board Certification Exam. Certification must be obtained within six months of date of hire and maintained, thereafter.
