The Organization

North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.

Supervision

Receives general supervision from the Public Information Supervisor.

The Position and Job Summary

The Public Information Legislative Specialist monitors, reports on, and coordinates local and statewide grassroots legislative activities on behalf of NLACRC. This position assists with legislative community outreach and events with NLACRC's stakeholders. This, including social media activity, and various grassroots efforts, assists in website maintenance and development, develops print and electronic media, assists in tracking and monitoring of legislative activities and other agency activities and projects as needed.

  • Coordinates social media activity and assists in developing, implementing, and managing our social media strategy.

  • Review proposed bills and identify legislation to be followed by DDS/Regional Centers throughout each fiscal year.

  • Provides analysis, research, and advice on pertinent DDS/Regional Center legislative activity.

  • Responsible for meeting and communicating with local and state legislators year-round regarding proposed bills, funding, and issues pertinent to the California Regional Center system.

  • Attend NLACRC's committee of the Board of Trustees, Government Community & Relations Committee to coordinate legislative activities.

  • Submit monthly reports regarding current legislative activities to Executive Leadership and Governing Board.

  • Coordinate and plan NLACRC's Annual Legislative Breakfast.

  • Attend Association of Regional Center Agency meetings, as scheduled.

  • Assists in developing, coordinating, and conducting outreach, public awareness marketing, stakeholder feedback, and campaigns regarding Legislative activities, as needed.

  • Other projects as assigned.

Employment Standards

Knowledge:

  • Experience in Canva, Social Media; Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

  • Website maintenance, design, and multimedia development.

  • Experience designing flyers, brochures, reports, and forms.

  • Outreach and special event coordination.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor's degree in a related field and one to three years of related experience or Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and three to five years of experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • 1 to 3 years of Legislative or Grassroots advocacy experience, preferred.

  • 1 to 3 years working in a variety of social media platforms.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work well independently under pressure of multiple deadlines and by prioritizing multiple work responsibilities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.

Essential Requirements

This position requires the use of a personal vehicle while conducting business and must possess a valid (Class C) California driver's license. Travel to Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys will be required.

  • Paid Time Off – Eligible for 3 weeks of accrued vacation in the first year, 8 hours per month sick time, education, wellness, and sabbatical time.

  • Holidays – NLACRC offers 12 paid holidays throughout the year.

  • Most positions are offered a hybrid – remote option.

Compensation

This is a non-exempt position. Regular salary $32.95 - $36.37 per hour, plus $69.24 per bi-weekly pay period for bilingual services.
