NJ Employer Nursery Worker in Calverton, New York

Anticipated period of employment: Feb 10, 2025 to July 14, 2025

Crops/Commodities: annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetable plants. Plants, and maintains in condition for shipping and sale to customers nursery plants, including annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetable plants. Pots seedlings, prunes, transplants, spaces, performs hand watering and drip-irrigation and culls plants to ensure availability of marketable products. Packs, labels, pulls and stores plants according to variety. Weeds, mows, loads/unloads truck and wagons. Performs any other duties involved in the maintenance of plant materials and nursery stock and maintenance of holding yards and shipping areas.

Work is to be done in the field or greenhouse for long periods of time. Workers will lift potting soil weighing up to and including 45 pounds to a height of 4 feet. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers will be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop operations. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 45 lbs.

Work will also include using a potting machine. Workers will be trained to use the potting machine and will be expected to be able to operate the potting machine with or without direction.
