Position description:

Harvard Divinity School seeks to appoint a facilitator for a section of the course on “Meaning-Making.” This discussion-based course accompanies the required course in Field Education as a part of the MDiv curriculum, providing a context for students to reflect on their experiences in supervised field work with a cohort of student colleagues and an experienced facilitator. Meaning-Making facilitators guide students in developing their own frameworks for critical and constructive reflection that brings their field experiences into conversation with the fruits of their academic study as well as their own religious/ethical/wisdom traditions. Facilitators will report to and be led in their work by the course instructor, Laura Tuach, Assistant Dean for Ministry Studies and Field Education. The course will take place over the course of the 2024-2025 academic year (August 2024 to May 2025).

The course must be open and accessible to the Divinity School’s diverse and multi-religious student body.

Please note that all Harvard employees must reside in the New England area as of August 1, 2024. It is expected that all instructors are versed and able to teach either remotely and/or in-person, following all CDC , Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and Harvard COVID -19 guidelines, should that become necessary.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate experience and excellence in teaching.

Previous publications in the area of the appointment are desirable, though not required.

Basic Qualifications are:

(1) Experience with teaching/leading small groups in theological reflection or other forms of meaning making.

(2) Sensibility to a multi-religious, diverse student body;

(3) Prior experience teaching at the graduate level

Additional Qualifications

MDiv or similar degree required, PhD preferred.
