Mechanical Systems Engineer, Space Flight Hardware

Position Overview

At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Mechanical Systems Engineer, Space Flight Hardware to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Responsibilities

As part of a small, highly collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to spaceflight hardware development and production with a high level of project ownership. Candidates must have a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.

  • Perform qualification and acceptance level environmental testing, including generating test plans, procedures, executing tests, and analyzing test results.

  • Perform mechanical assembly, integration, and test of spaceflight hardware and support equipment.

  • Provide technical expertise related to test operations and results.

  • Communicate information about design, requirements, and performance between the engineering team, management, customer, and vendors

    Minimum Requirements

-Minimum of B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or related STEM discipline) plus 2+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of technical education and experience).

-Hands-on experience in the development and testing of spaceflight hardware.

-Excellent written, verbal, and virtual communication skills.

-Must be a US Person

Preferred Requirements

-Expertise in the development of space systems, from conceptual design through delivery, including traceability requirements for safety critical systems.

-Experience developing test plans and procedures.

-Experience with CAD software (CREO and CATIA preferred).

-Operation, assembly/disassembly, and maintenance of test equipment required including but not limited to thermal chamber and pressure systems.

-Experience working with standards for spaceflight hardware design and test (MIL-STD-810, NASA-STD-5020).

-Experience with quality systems (ISO9001, AS9100) in a production environment.

-Experience working in and maintaining a clean room environment (ISO Class 8 or cleaner).

Physical Requirements

  • Assembly of hardware required, including but not limited to small screws and precision applications of adhesive and grease.

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds

    Salary Range (Annualized USD)

  • Minimum Range: $68,000.00 to $120,000.00

  • Maximum Range: $84,000.00 to $150,000.00
