  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex problems and develop clear, detailed requirements

  • Demonstrated product and service mindset and the ability to act as a trusted advisor

  • Experience in stakeholder management, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as demonstrated presentation and negotiation abilities

Additional Information:This role is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA-based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite at least three days per week and for departments to provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

Do you have a passion for overseeing advanced computing products that enable groundbreaking research? If so, consider joining our team as a Product Manager in Research Technologies in the Harvard Business School (HBS) Information Technology (IT) Department. This role supports HBS's mission to advance research by providing state-of-the-art computing resources and services to the HBS research community and collaborators.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Research Technologies in HBS’s IT department, the Product Manager defines product strategies and engages with faculty and partners to define the functionality and roadmaps for our research computing platforms and products. The Product Manager collaborates in the design, development, testing, delivery, and support of high-quality and innovative research computing products that advance HBS's research mission. They oversee the research product and service deployment and support in both on-premises and cloud environments. They are responsible for ensuring that research computing products and services meet the faculty's research goals and comply with IT standards.

The ideal candidate will be an agile self-starter who maintains focus when handling product ambiguity, a skilled communicator who is effective in navigating stakeholder relationships, and a strategic problem-solver with product management and service experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships with faculty, HBS IT teams, and other partners to translate research needs into product requirements and scoping

  • Build a deep understanding of specific research activities through regular engagements with Research Computing Services (RCS) and researchers

  • Work at an expert level within a team on all phases of the product lifecycle and consider the business implications of technology applications to the current and future research environment

  • Own and drive the long-term strategic roadmap for research computing products in alignment with the strategic direction of the Managing Director, Research Technologies Gather, analyze, and prioritize requirements by advocating for and maintaining empathy for all stakeholders with an enthusiasm for design thinking

  • Simplify problems and write clear, detailed requirements in easy-to-understand language for engineers and researchers

  • As the product owner, be the voice of the researchers when working with the rest of the product team; conversely, be the voice of the project team when negotiating deliverables with researchers

  • Lead the work with vendors and software developers to build product with researchers to ensure that modern standards of reproducible research are maintained

  • Oversee the service management of research computing products, ensuring reliable and efficient delivery of services to faculty and researchers

  • Develop and maintain end-user documentation, communications, and refining internal processes

  • Contribute to product quality measures and budget planning

  • Monitor product performance and usage metrics to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for optimization

  • Assist in training and deployment of initiatives and services for researchers via team engagement and collaboration with RCS, HBS IT, and other service partner staff

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned
