Quality Assurance Specialist - Camp Hill, PA

This is a exempt level position.

We are seeking a Quality/Food Safety Assurance Specialist with initiative, flexibility, a positive attitude, & the desire to learn the business. The Quality/Food Safety Assurance Specialist will be responsible for identifying & communicating food safety issues to Quality Management & the Plant team. This individual will also assist in the implementation of corrective & preventative actions as needed. This role will play vital role in ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, customer & 3rd party audit requirements. In addition, this position will be directly involved in the ongoing development, implementation & improvement of the local Quality Management System. It is the expectation that the Quality/Food Safety Specialist will actively participate in continuous improvement objectives in order to meet or exceed customer requirements & business goals. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily monitoring of the day-to-day facility processing operations to ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including equipment inspection & participation in pre-operational & post-operational start-up procedures.

  • Identification of & continuous monitoring for potential sources of contamination within each product flow. Assistance in foreign material investigations.

  • Assess product quality risk as needed in determination of final product disposition.

  • Control & disposition of non-conforming product: return, reject, & rework product

  • Create & implement internal monitoring audits. Notify Quality Management & the Plant team of non-conformances & assist in implementing corrective actions.

  • Assist in developing, implementing & validating science based HACCP & FSMA Food Safety plans, associated prerequisite programs, & SOPs for each process area within the facility.

  • Maintain audit-ready status of plant. Preparation for 3rd party & customer audits.

  • Lead role in conducting internal food safety, GMP audits, & SOP audits.

  • Track & trend data to ensure new trends are not developing. Assist in developing & implementing a plan of action to improve areas identified for improvement.

  • Development & implementation of training programs to instruct employees to monitor & document HACCP, SOP, & other required functions.

  • Maintenance of the Microbiological Control Program, including the performance of swabbing activities, result trending, & corrective action implementation & follow-up.

  • Assurance of Positive Release: record review, verification of compliance with filed processes, FSMA preventive control compliance, product traceability requirements & reviewing to assure the production of safe & wholesome food products.

  • QA Responsibilities

  • Receiving of ingredients/packaging

  • Calibration of critical measuring equipment: work with Operations to ensure legal for trade scales are certified/calibrated & functioning within limits

  • Assurance of adequacy & proper functioning of product protection devices, including but not limited to magnets, sifters, metal detectors, etc.

  • Directly responsible for advancing the Quality Culture at the Plant

  • Quality Management System (QMS) Responsibilities

  • PolicyTech Document Ownership & Incident Management

  • Corrective Action/Preventive Action: Collaboration with Operations to implement, track & verify corrective actions

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in science related field preferred

  • Previous supervision of QC/QA department in the food processing industry preferred

  • Solid understanding of HACCP & Quality Management Systems through HACCP certification and/or inspection & auditing certification

  • Effective written & verbal communication skills to all levels & functions of employees

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Willingness to work overtime & weekends as needed

  • Ability to prioritize & set goals
