Amentum Joint Fires Analyst in Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii

Amentum is seeking a dynamic Joint Fires Analyst to provide research, planning, analysis, and exercise support to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Requirements and Resources Directorate (J8) at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

The Joint Fires Analyst will support the J81 Joint Innovation and Experimentation Division with the integration of Joint Fires and planning expertise into the command’s multi-domain experimentation efforts. The ever-increasing demands associated with a congested and contested operational environment in the Indo-Pacific theater requires strategic and operational partners who are properly postured to meet mission critical requirements. This position will support innovative approaches to experiment integration and capabilities assessment, and requires close coordination with OSD, Joint Staff, Service Components, research labs, and industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP), and operational concepts for new and emerging technologies and enable their integration into joint exercises.

  • Contribute expertise in the application of Joint Fires concepts and doctrine to a fast-moving experimentation scenario.

  • Draft and coordinate staffing of Joint Fires documentation informed by data collected from experimentation and exercises. This documentation will include regular reports on the progress of the project, TTPs, concepts of operation, and concepts of employment.

  • Work with data scientists and ORSA personnel before, during, and after experimentation, test, and exercise events to develop data management and analysis plans (DMAPs), measures of effectiveness and measures of performance informed by the candidate’s expert knowledge of operational Joint Fires and Joint doctrine.

  • Support senior-level strategic planning and briefings, including preparing formal papers and background information for USINDOPACOM senior leader consumption.

  • Provide a Data Collection, Analysis, and Evaluation Plan (DCAEP) for each technology integrated into designated Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC) exercises.

  • Participate in mission briefings and debriefings, trouble-shooting problems related to experiments, and contributing to the orderly flow of the exercise as it pertains to executing the experiments.

  • Perform in-depth reviews and evaluations of all the information supplied by the various experimentation entities.

  • Provide security assistance, when needed, to ensure the protection of classified information related to experimentation technologies and capabilities during exercise execution.

  • Travel approximately 15% annually, both to Mainland U.S. and Allied and Partner nations, in support of conferences, planning sessions, and exercises/experiments.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience

  • At least 10 years of experience supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), including at least 5 years of experience in military operations

  • At least 3 years of experience working in military plans

  • At least 3 years of experience in a senior military staff office (OSD, JS, Service HQ, Combatant Command, Component, Sub-Unified Command)

  • Knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region

  • Experience conducting research on a range of topics and functional areas

  • Experience in operational and/or strategic levels of DoD planning and/or execution

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient at authoring analytical and/or policy documents

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Must have an active Top-Secret clearance and be SCI eligible. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, or Graduation from a military command and staff college

  • 10 or more years of experience in military plans

  • 5 years' experience working in the USINDOPACOM AOR

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the planning continuum to include the Joint Operational Planning Process (JOPP), Joint Operating Concepts (JOC), and Joint Capabilities Areas (JCA)

  • Theater knowledge and advanced joint planning skills to shape and deliver the desired plans

  • Detailed knowledge of USINDOPACOM policy and strategy and a thorough understanding of USINDOPACOM TCP/TCO, GCPs, CT EXORD, OPLANs, CONPLANs, and Theater Security Cooperation Plans including linkages to parallel national interests

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. national plans and policy (National Security Strategy (NSS), National Military Strategy (NMS), Unified Command Plan (UCP), Guidance for Employment of the Force (GEF), and Joint Strategic Campaign Plan (JSCP)

  • Thorough understanding of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) to include mission analysis, course of action development, analysis, comparison, recommendation and approval

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to provide information, articles, written reports, and presentations to include delivering executive summaries to flag and general officers (FO/GO) and Senior Executive Service (SES) level officials

The salary range for this position is $140K to $170K. (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
