U.S. Marine Corps FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

Responsibilities You will respond to fires and fire related emergencies involving structures, aircraft, motor vehicle, wildland, and hazardous materials. You will be responsible for inspecting structures and hazardous areas for compliance with Base Orders on Fire regulations and National Fire Codes. You will respond to any release of hazardous materials, munitions, and fires at various storage sites, in vehicles or vessels used to transport these materials You will respond to all emergency medical related incidents and is required to administer emergency care in accordance with the FES operating procedures You will respond as a member of a water rescue ad recovery, deployment of containment booms for oil spills, and marine/shipboard firefighting. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Rescue of patients in confined spaces and auto extrications, participate in emergency response team performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures, structural firefighting, and responding to hazardous material emergency operations. GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing emergency medical treatment to include but not limited to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), rescue of patients in confined spaces and auto extrications, participate in emergency response team performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures, structural firefighting, and responding to hazardous material emergency operations Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0000/fire-protection-and-prevention-series-0081/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position is designated emergency essential personnel and the position is subject to recall. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies. This position requires rotating shift work. You will be required to participate in the Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program. You will be required to maintain compliance with NFPA 1582 (Fire Fighter Physical Medical Evaluations), NFPA 1583 (Fire Fighter Fitness Program Requirements You will be required to participate in the mandatory F&ESD Physical Fitness Program to maintain a level and degree of fitness needed to perform all duties. You may be subject to mandatory recall during destructive weather, major incidents, or any other time determined by the command. You may be required to work in high elevations and/or below ground in confined workspaces. You will be required to work hours and conditions under close contact with supervisors for long periods of time. You will be subject to adverse weather and/or harsh working conditions; burns, smoke inhalation, noxious fumes, falling materials, and explosions. You will be exposed to communicable diseases, unsanitary conditions and traumatic injuries. You will be required to possess and maintain the physical stamina, agility, and mental stability to work under conditions where intense periods of physical exertion and mental stress, under adverse conditions, may be encountered. You must be able to work under emergency conditions giving clear, definitive instructions, in a decisive manner to firefighting forces and other emergency service personnel. This position is performed indoors, outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and is subject to heat, cold, smoke, wind, humidity, and stress. This position is subject to exposure from hazardous materials that include chemicals, fuels, biological agents, radioactive particles, and explosives. Education GS-05: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study is qualifying. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
