Primary Responsibilities

St. Lawrence University invites applications for Assistant Director of the Newell Center for Arts Technology ( NCAT ), a full-time, eleven-month staff position that bridges the areas of technical, logistical, and instructional support. The Assistant Director reports to the NCAT Director and the Executive Director of Campus Services in the IT division.

The NCAT is a suite of shared spaces supporting St. Lawrence’s programs in Art & Art History, Music, Digital Media & Film, Performance & Communication Arts, The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, and the First Year Program. The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, including the management of 50 Mac workstations, a small team of student employees, and a pool of loaner equipment. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to support the arts departments and programs in effectively bringing NCAT resources to bear in teaching and learning. They maintain close ties and constant communication between the NCAT and IT, participating in IT planning, training, and operations. Responsibilities include maintenance and troubleshooting; training faculty and students; conducting research related to the ongoing development, implementation, and maintenance of the NCAT facility; and other related duties as assigned. New developments in the academic programs make this an exciting time to reimagine the NCAT’s role going forward.

The successful candidate will be a well-organized, energetic team player who can work well under pressure. Background in the arts, system administration, and educational technology are all valuable in this position, and candidates with strength in more than one of these areas are especially encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time, 11 month, Seasonal position with a robust benefits package including health insurance and educational benefits for individuals and qualified dependents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related area.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with some of the following software is required: JAMF , Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, Logic, and/or Sibelius.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in instructional support or technical support, preferably in a higher education setting, and experience with large-format printing.

    Salary $55,375 - $58,000 annual salary determined based on qualifications and other factors permitted by law.
