Medical Laboratory Technician

Medical Laboratory Technicians work with the healthcare team to gather and provide laboratory information to caregivers that assist them with patient diagnosis and treatment. This diagnostic data can also provide vital information for disease prevention and health monitoring.
A caregiver in this position works day/evening rotation, 7:00AM - 3:00PM or 2:30PM-9:00Pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels.
Correlate abnormal laboratory data with pathological states.
Determine the validity of test results and the need for additional tests.
Communicate test results, reference ranges, specimen requirements and other pertinent information.
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Maintain instruments and equipment.
Perform proficiency testing.
Participate in continuing education, professional development and annual competency assessments.
Coordinate prioritization, receipt and delivery of laboratory specimens.
Verify accurate documentation relative to specimen processing.
Accept or reject specimens, prepare specimens for analysis, aliquot, transport and distribute specimens, and maintain tracking information for specimens.
Perform data entry, record keeping and preventative maintenance.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR education and training equivalent to an associate's degree in laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution per CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel.

Physical Requirements:
Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.
Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.
Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
May be required to stand for long periods of time.
Light lifting may be required.
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
