Gentex Corporation Engineering Technician in CARBONDALE, Pennsylvania

 

PURPOSE:

Perform experiments, trials, and analytical tests on different formulations, solvents, and resin systems when applied to different plastic substrates and coatings in order to improve product performance. The position mainly involves technical knowhow and implementing solutions into a manufacturing environment. 

 

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

· Execute formulations, conduct experimental trials and perform associated characterizations as necessary.

· Support transfer of processes and new products to production.

· Evaluate performance and quality of products, including thermomechanical performances, impact resistance, durability.

· Documentation of all trials along with critical parameters into a readily accessible easy to use environment.

· Create database of experimental data to improve efficiency of product development.

· Develop products/processes in a fast paced environment.

· Communicate and disseminate information to peers and customers through written reports.

· Interact with customers to understand needs, create structured development processes, and implement product solutions.

Requirements

 

EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s) and EXPERIENCE:

· The successful candidate must possess an Associate's degree (S. A. / S.) in Chemistry, Physics, Material Engineering or related technical discipline; or three years in engineering/manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Two (2) to three (3) years of chemistry or material science experience with good analytical aptitude. 

· Prior experience with optical materials knowledge preferred.

· Research and development techniques are desired.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Proficiency in MS Office Suite

· Experience with basic chemical synthesis or formulation, analytical technique and material characterization is required.

· Knowledge of statistical analysis and experience in production environment will be a plus.

· Detail oriented with very good organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

· Self-motivated with good team skills, strong analytical skills, and strong interpersonal skills

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

Daily contact with engineers, managers, purchasing, manufacturing and warehouse personnel

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; manual dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have the ability to solve practical problems and a general ability to interpret instructions furnished in verbal, written, diagram or schedule format.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.

Limited Travel Required

Gentex's Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
