Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a QA Technical Specialist in Carlsbad, NM.

This position will support the Department of Energy Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) in Carlsbad, NM. CBFO’s mission includes management and support of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in southeastern New Mexico and the National Transuranic Waste Program (NTP). Navarro staff provides services such as: audits and assessments, security, program management, mining engineering, construction management, WIPP site operations, environmental and regulatory compliance, nuclear and industrial safety, scientific and international programs, TRU waste characterization and certification, TRU waste transportation and packaging, general business operations, information technology, document control, and executive management support.

This position is located in Carlsbad, NM with travel to the WIPP site and generator sites for audits.

Requirements

  • Waste characterization experience in NDE (VE and RTR), NDA, or AK, preferred.

  • 10 to 20 years of directly relevant and applicable experience OR a Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 15 years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree and three to 10 years of relevant experience in the specific discipline or subject matter area required by the project.

  • A qualified QA Technical Specialist must have experience in assessing the effectiveness of activities associated with radioactive mixed waste characterization, packaging, transportation and disposal; working-level knowledge of technical disciplines associated with nuclear facilities, waste characterization processes, hazardous materials, engineering, chemistry, industrial safety, nuclear safety, radioactive packaging and transportation or other similar disciplines, and the regulations associated with the discipline the individual is deemed to be an expert.

  • A qualified QA Technical Specialist must also possess a working knowledge of relevant site procedures and program documents (e.g., CBFO QAPD, WIPP-WAP, WIPP-WAC, and TRAMPAC) within 120 days of employment to successfully complete assigned activities during a CBFO program area audit.
