Underground Facility Operations Manager

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as theUnderground Facility Operations Managerto join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will direct and manage the activities of Underground Facility Operations and access control personnel. Manage outages and evolutions of underground utilities and systems. Oversee science and research activities by site tenants including universities and laboratories. Ensure that all appropriate policies and procedures will be met or exceeded for the protection of the health and safety of employees and the environment including the safeness of facilities and work areas, and for the quality performance of work scope. Responsible for the implementation of WIPP safety programs, policies, and procedures. Maintain training, qualification programs, and documentation to ensure that only trained and qualified personnel are assigned work tasks. Monitor and ensure compliance with the Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, the Documented Safety Analysis and its Technical Safety Requirements, the Hazardous Waste Facility Permit, Mine Safety and Health Administration standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, State of New Mexico Mining Code requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Prioritize and manage Underground Services and Underground Access and Control activities. Coordinate and communicate with Operations Management and DOE counterpart all activities associated with any experimental activities. Communicate management policies and information to Underground Services personnel. Evaluate employee-s technical and professional performance against established standards. Support Operations manager by attending meetings and serving on committees as directed. Responsible to achieve the desired level of quality, and to review, evaluate, and improve work processes as defined by the Quality Assurance Program.

Exempt Grade Level(s) (33-34)

Minimum Requirements:These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and applications are the means of determination.**

  • Bachelor-s degree with two (2) years of professional experience, or

  • Associate's degree with six (6) years of professional experience, or

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of professional experience is required.

  • Two (2) years of nuclear experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous facility operations and underground mine experience is preferred.

  • Preference given to candidates with previous supervisory experience.

  • Prior WIPP experience is preferred.

Minimum salary $100,630 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate-s relevant experience and education.
