About This Role

The (Senior Safety Manager of Manufacturing), Environmental. Health & Safety will be responsible for providing direction, planning and oversight of EH&S policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable local laws and regulations and corporate standards within the Modular Mission Critical manufacturing facility, warehouse and logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall EH&S leadership, mentoring and direction to plant and management team members to ensure employee health and the environment are protected. Conduct and supervise activities to ensure compliance with government regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) and corporate policies. This role will directly manage three-five safety professionals.

  • Provides leadership and builds partnerships across all levels of the organization to foster EHS culture improvement with strategic action plans

  • Works on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups, external to and within the core EHS team.

  • Develop, implement, and measure success of EH&S programs, strategies, policies, training and procedures in alignment with Corporate and Operations expectations.

  • Continuously improve the EHS management system at the facility

  • Establish strategies and programs to proactively identify facility safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organization’s operations and develop plans to eliminate or control those hazards.

  • Drive incident and near miss reporting. Perform root cause analysis of incidents and injuries to determine specific actions needed to prevent their reoccurrence, with inclusion of operations subject matter experts and organization leadership.

  • Oversee workers’ compensation program administration including working with all parties to aggressively manage and support modified duty and return to work programs.

  • Facilitate EHS training and orientation as needed. Identify EHS related training requirements for associates and support processes to ensure training effectiveness and compliance.

  • Ensure all EHS related records are accurately maintained/organized and in compliance with local, state, and national requirements or any other regulatory agency rules and regulations.

  • Organize and lead teams/committees to identify and implement EHS and sustainability improvements.

  • Coach/mentor all employees, including leadership, on safe work practices, hazard identification and risk management.

  • Direct risk assessments and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern.

  • Analyze data to lead and coordinate the safety effort for continual improvement.

  • Conduct EH&S audits; audit compliance to M.C. Dean policies and procedures and regulatory requirements, evaluate effectiveness of EH&S programs.

  • Generate and review all reports for State and Federal environmental (EPA) and safety (OSHA) agencies.

  • Manage partnership with onsite & offsite medical teams to ensure resources are available to conduct new hire assessments, and provide medical support as needed, etc.

  • Establish and communicate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines and manage vendor relationships.

  • Determination and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize water use, greenhouse gas generation, hazardous waste generation and increase recycling rate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 8+ years of practical environmental health and safety management experience at a medium-large manufacturing site

  • Regulatory expertise in general industry health and safety standards and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized Certification in Environmental, Safety or Health, Risk Management such as CIH, CSP, etc.

  • Master’s degree in health and safety, occupational/industrial safety, environmental sciences or related field preferred

  • Previous EH&S experience in a large manufacturing environment with a proven track record in leading culture change and improving safety performance.

  • Strong computer experience in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and EHS related data management systems (i.e. Enablon).

  • Ability to develop training content and deliver in-person and digitally.

  • Demonstrated success in leading, motivating, engaging and influencing others.

  • Demonstrated ability to research regulations, develop a program and successfully operationalize within a business.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction and strategy.

  • Experience in leading a team, as well as proven ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively with and work with all levels of the organization and external agencies

  • Demonstrated understanding of standard EH&S reporting methods and metrics

  • Demonstrated success in leading and implementing site and/or corporate EH&S programs and systems.

  • Ability to influence and drive EH&S initiatives while working in diverse, multicultural environment

  • Demonstrated strength in EH&S risk assessment, program evaluation and auditing

  • Strong knowledge, understanding and compliance with Environment, Health and Safety regulations, standard concepts, practices and procedures required.
