Maintenance Supervisor – Fixed Equipment Reliability

Job Summary

Marathon Petroleum Company's Los Angeles Refining Division, located in Carson, CA, has an opening for Maintenance Supervisor in the Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineering Department. The hours of the position are Monday - Thursday - 10 hour days - core hours 7 AM - 3:30 PM, after hours calls are required once a month on average and support of TAR once a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineers (FERE) and oversee/manage fixed equipment repair procedures covered by the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program and Industry Codes

  • Ensure all repairs meets Industry Codes, Best Practices, Marathon specifications, California State requirements and LAR guidelines with PSM covered equipment.

  • Review and approve all repair procedures for Broke and Fix and TAR events discovery scopes.

  • Assist FERE and SMEs in development of major maintenance shutdown and turnaround engineering scope, plans and schedules.

  • Ensure repair recommendations meet code and company requirements.

  • Mentor FERE and SMEs in engineering tools/software such as FFS, Compress, CEASAR II, etc.

  • Ensure Process Safety information (PSI) is updated as required.

  • Provide fixed equipment mechanical integrity guidance to all Departments.

  • Ensure proper refinery work processes are followed and that all applicable documentation is completed per guidelines.

  • Support timely completion of safety related programs: Intelex, MOC’s, PMOC’s, toolbox meetings and yearly goals.

  • Provide career development and performance input to the FERE staff.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in Engineering. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Must have at least 5 years of fixed equipment mechanical engineering experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry.

  • Familiar with the API 510 and API 570.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Travel Requirement is less than 5%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • Prior leadership experience is preferred.

  • Experience with Risk-Based Inspection and turnaround engineering is preferred.

  • Experience with IDMS - Inspection Data Management Systems is preferred.
