Geonetric IT Infrastructure Engineer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

SummaryAs an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will optimize, implement, audit, troubleshoot, and monitor the information systems at Geonetric. This involves deploying cloud-ready server and network infrastructure in an Azure environment. It also includes troubleshooting and fixing defects in Geonetric hosted vended services and products.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to be flexible in a rapidly evolving environment. You will get to work with all things network and systems along with assisting the network security engineer with securing Geonetric’s information systems.

 Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWhile you might get to work on just about anything at Geonetric, you will primarily:

  • Build and maintain infrastructure in the Microsoft Azure cloud

  • Support various systems including Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS, Windows based servers, applications, phone and email systems

  • Maintain global traffic management, and application load balancers, to ensure application delivery and security

  • Monitor and maintain system health logs and dashboards

  • Research, recommend, and implement Microsoft Azure network and security features that best fit Geonetric’s services and products

  • Manage and administer Web Application Firewalls (WAFs), firewalls, routers, and network switches

  • Provide off-hours support on a schedule to respond to cases of security incidents and outages

  • Act as a consultant for client technical questions regarding hosting, implementation, and special configurations

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in areas of network and cloud infrastructure by staying current on the latest technology and trends and identifying long-term goals, projects, and areas for improvement

  • Serve as a resource for end user questions and issues as well as provide backup desktop support

  • Troubleshoot and repair server issues and downed sites

  • Monitor client site hosting utilization

     Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Networking, or similar technical curriculum is required

  • 3-5 years of previous related experience preferred

  • 1-2 years of experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly Microsoft Azure

  • 1 year of experience securing cloud environments

  • Previous experience with scripting and automation is preferred 

  • Previous healthcare experience is a plus

     Professional Skills

  • Previous public cloud (Azure AWS, GCP) experience required

  • Authentication/MFA experience required

  • Interest in server and system support required

  • Windows server administration experience required

  • Previous systems experience required

  • Microsoft systems experience required

  • Experience and interest in networking required

  • Security strategy for an enterprise software platform experience preferred

  • Azure public cloud experience preferred

  • Network security experience preferred

  • IT certification(s) preferred

     On-Call

  • This position is required to respond to after-hours calls and may need to work occasional evenings and weekends for upgrades.
