Natives of Kodiak Director, Business Development - Construction in Chandler, Arizona

The Director of Business Development is responsible for strategy, research, analysis, and presentation of business opportunities for future direction and growth of the overall business sector. The position develops and implements planning and strategy for new business development, leads organic growth for an existing customer base, and serves as a strategic advisor for sector leadership. Essential Functions:

  • Oversee aspects of the activities to capture and win new business/programs.

  • Work with Sector GM’s to formulate and execute pipeline development, and other activities to win new profitable business in alignment with the current Annual Operating Plan and long-term growth plans.

  • Own the development and execution of market strategy and pipeline while ensuring that the business development strategy is implemented, including making recommendations for modifications when necessary.

  • Implement the business development process including market assessment, and customer engagement, understanding procurement requirements, funding capabilities, priorities, and functional requirements.

  • Identify opportunities with high win potential, qualifying opportunities, and working with capture and delivery teams to win.

  • Lead sales meetings to communicate the status on the pipeline, business development, and proposal activities and provide analytics and reporting.

  • Oversee the development and execution of customer call plans for opportunities, assessing the competitive landscape, and applying knowledge of leading competitors to foster the development and implementation of an effective and differentiated win strategy.

  • Work with GM’s to develop and brief bid/no bid recommendations, pursue and capture strategies for new business opportunities; and associated business cases for advancing opportunities that will grow the business.

  • Use strong client management skills, including the ability to develop and maintain lasting relationships with government and industry partners through regular interactions across markets to gain valuable intelligence and insights and subsequently position KOMAN as a trusted partner to customers.

  • Assist with management of responses to government market research inquiries (e.g. RFPs, Sources Sought Notices, etc.), attend industry events, and participate in thought leadership initiatives.

  • Shape acquisition strategies by leveraging client relationships, company capabilities, and experience, partners, and contracting vehicles.

  • Work with and as a member of the Sector Leadership Team (SLT), coordinate and execute a prioritized synchronization strategy that focuses on closing pursuits that impact the current Annual Operating Plan followed by our long-term growth plans.

  • Aid in the negotiation of teaming agreements, contracts, and proposal development.

  • Act as Capture Manager for large strategic proposals including development of solutions and win strategies, developing and executing capture plans.

  • Assists with the process of the proposals and assists in that effort as needed.

  • Participates in and takes a leadership role with appropriate organizations, meetings, and events to expand and build networks and alliances.

  • Deliver presentations and communicate to internal and external audiences to grow market opportunities.

  • Ensure that KOMAN is viewed as a key partner across markets, helping position KOMAN favorably in the eyes of both the customer and teaming partners.

  • Coaching of others and providing business development advice as necessary.

What will top candidates bring to the table?

  • 15 years’ experience in Sales and Customer Service. Demonstrated experience in Sales and Managing a Construction Business Development Program.

  • Direct Experience in developing business, and establishing relationships in an SBA 8A, SBA Mentor Protégé, HUB Zoned construction-related business for a federal contractor.

  • Acts in a Federal Business Development/Capture capacity and is responsible for selling the Construction Management Portfolio to the Federal Government, Contracting Officers and Owners.

  • Good track record in establishing relationships with teaming partners and tracking business opportunities.

  • Word Processing software, database software, spreadsheet software.

  • Interpersonal skills; patience; problem solving skills; attention to detail; organization skills; accuracy; time management.

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.

  • At this level, supports highly complex opportunities.

  • Gains access and manages relationships with senior level technical personnel and decision makers.

  • Uncovers critical processes and validates operational strengths and challenges within the customer's environment.

  • Understands and knows construction scope and processes and can speak and present those capabilities of each of the Sectors LLC's, to the clients and customer.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/Sales, Supply chain, Construction management or equivalent experience.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders or stairs; use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and get in and out of vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move small or large objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, however, hours can fluctuate depending on project needs to include evenings, nights, and weekends. Local travel to construction worksites may be required.
