Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS. The Core Laboratory is comprised of multiple testing areas- Chemistry, Toxicology, Blood Gas Analysis, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Automated Hematology and Manual Hematology, including Smear Review and Body Fluid Analysis, and Specimen Processing.

The Core Laboratory is currently recruiting a Senior Technologist to serve as Acting Charge Tech on weekend shifts.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following-

• Ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory

• Work alongside coworkers to ensure good patient care and customer service

• Resolving issues and complaints

• Answering questions and providing technical strength for troubleshooting and problem solving at the bench level

• Triaging assignments to staff based on coverage needs

• Ensuring all laboratory quality indicators are met

• Developing a coverage plan and notifying team members in case of call outs

• Resolving, documenting, and communicating problems that arise during shift

• Acting as a role model and advocate for compliance with policies and procedures

• Serving as a contact for outside departments and customers

Position will be 12 hour shifts, 2330-1200, Saturdays and Sundays. Another 2 8 hour shifts, 2330-0800, will be required during the week.

Education Requirements:

● Requires Bachelor's of Science degree.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Requires MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Requires two years of experience at the medical laboratory technologist, medical laboratory technician, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist level.
