UNC Health Care Respiratory Therapist Clinical Specialist - NEO/PEDS Educator in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Position qualifies for our inpatient Respiratory Care Incentive Program:

$15,000 commitment incentive with a three (3) year commitment

This position is also eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location)

Participation in our employee referral program ($3,000 referral bonus to employees who refer other Respiratory Therapists)

Summary:

Develops and provides services related to the neonatal and pediatric orientation, continuing education, and assessment of pediatric clinical Respiratory Therapy staff. The RT Clinical Specialist is responsible for some patient care within their designated area. The Clinical Specialist is also responsible for collabortaing with Respiratory Therapy leadership, RNs, providers, and other members of the health care team to coordinate care and educational needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with leadership and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff. Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.

  2. Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curricula related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.

  3. Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.

  4. Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation and education activities.

  5. Provides guidance to pediatric Respiratory Therapy team on current pathways and policies. Assist in creating and editing policies and pathways.

  6. Collaborates with pediatric RT's on pediatric acute care patients such as asthma, high flow nasal cannula, etc to provide quality control measures.

Other Information

Education Requirements:

● Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

● If hired after August 1, 2016, a Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field is required.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board and registry eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in an intensive care setting.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

● Advanced knowledge of principles and techniques of mechanical ventilation and care of the patient with complex respiratory diseases or compromise.

● Able to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

● Interpersonal communication skills necessary to work with hospital employees, physicians, patients, family members and community professionals.

● Must possess exceptional critical thinking skills and deal with extreme pressure and stress.

● Ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.
