Actalent Civil Engineer - EIT in Charleston, South Carolina

Job Title: Civil Engineer - EITJob Description

We are seeking a Civil Engineer- EIT or PE, to join our Charleston, South Carolina office. This person will be working on Commercial, Residential, and Municipal Land Development projects, with an emphasis on stormwater management (drainage/stormwater design and permitting). The initial responsibilities of the candidate will be the preparation of Site Development Plans and supporting calculations for Land Development Projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site investigation and due diligence, including the review of ordinances, utility service research, agency regulations, and site visits to establish comprehensive development guidelines and due diligence reports.

  • Prepare conceptual engineering drawings based on client’s development objectives and conclusions of due diligence.

  • Design stormwater management and stormwater conveyance systems, including the use of hydrology design software. This includes preparing pipe sizing calculations for stormwater conveyance systems, drainage area maps, surface runoff coefficients, invert, slope, velocity, and hydraulic grade line evaluation using the Rational Method and Manning’s Equation.

  • Ensure knowledge of stormwater management design regulations, including County, SCD, and governing municipality. Proficiency with ICPR4, Stormcad, SFWMD Cascade, and Nutrient Loading BMP Software is preferred.

  • Perform grading design and earthwork analysis.

  • Design utility systems, including sanitary sewer and lift station design, water distribution systems, and fire flow calculations.

  • Develop soil erosion and sediment control designs.

  • Prepare construction cost estimates.

  • Coordinate projects, including attending project team meetings and virtual meetings.

  • Prepare written correspondence with outside agencies, clients, attorneys, contractors, etc., including technical reports such as drainage, sanitary sewer, and site investigation reports.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of local/relevant experience.

  • EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

  • Experience/proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Development Software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-starter with a strong desire to learn and excel under the mentoring of a company principal.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with ICPR4, Stormcad, SFWMD Cascade, and Nutrient Loading BMP Software.

  • Experience in municipal land development, commercial, and residential projects.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00
