Summary The incumbent works under the Supervision of Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Recreation Therapist, and/or Blind Rehabilitation Specialists to provide services that promote the prevention, remediation and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical dysfunction. This position is located in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Under direct therapist supervision, assist implementation of treatment plans by managing lines and IV's/lV poles, wheelchairs, etc. that may limit function otherwise. Assist therapy staff in mobility of certain veterans utilizing Safe Patient Handling Techniques. Assist in transport of patients to and from clinic(s) within the facility. Promote STRIDE Program by participating in daily walks with enrolled participants and completing required documentation timely in CPRS. Maintains infection control and safety precautions. Under direct therapist supervision, assists with fitting/issuing/instructing in proper use of basic prosthetics, orthotics, and supportive devices. Adjusts, instructs and issues assistive devices for ambulation and assists in instruction of patients in proper use, care and safety. Assists in measuring and adjusting wheelchairs and instructs patients in proper use, care, and safety. Assist with instruction of patients in the use of orthoses, supportive devices, Activities of Daily Living devices, and leisure activities Employee receives and directs patients, visitors and others requesting information, guidance or referral for special assistance. Performs non-technical maintenance of equipment to prevent malfunctions and maintains treatment area in a safe, orderly manner. Employee is expected to recognize potentially hazardous situations (i.e. water on floor, frayed cords) and takes corrective action Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/20/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily active and requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, squatting, carrying light items, pushing wheelchairs and providing assistance in moving veterans. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
