Summary This position is located in the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the VA Medical Center at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston SC. The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to: Incumbent is a working supervisor who works jointly with the other Housekeeping Aide Supervisors to oversee all aspects of Environmental Management Service (EMS) to include all textile care processing. The primary objectives of the position are to ensure that the Medical Center meets or exceeds all Environment of Care standards for cleanliness and for the administration of the linen control program. Incumbent supervises the housekeeping aides, laundry workers, materials handler, and work leaders for Environmental Management Service. He/she is responsible for planning, estimating, scheduling, and supervising work accomplished Environmental Management Service, to include all aspects of the textile care processing program (e.g., equipment, linen, uniforms, and inspections), and conducts continuous performance monitoring and corrective actions, to include additional training. The incumbent also directs the day to day activities and tasks of assigned volunteer and compensated work therapy (CWT) patients, and possesses the skills and knowledge needed to ensure that the Medical Center provides a physical environment free of hazards for all patients, staff and visitors. Incumbent has regular access to printed and electronic files which may contain sensitive data that must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974, and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. He/she is responsible for protecting the data from unauthorized release, alteration and following applicable regulations regarding access to computerized files and access codes. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to perform work while standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, or working with hands overhead. There is occasional work requiring lifting and carrying of heavy loads. It may be necessary to work in cramped quarters, small openings, on stepladders, in areas with dust, dirt, extreme heat or cold. Incumbent must be alert and focused while using the various pieces of equipment and appliances. Incumbent must be able to determine the cause of malfunctions and take the necessary steps to correct them in order to maintain operations.
