Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leading communications, PR and media relations strategy and execution for assigned athletics teams. This will include creating communications processes, ability to cultivate and strengthen media relationships, and an ability to draft issues statements, and executive communications.

  • Serve as the daily integrator with multiple athletic programs as determined by the unit leader, while assisting the Strategic Communications team with other programs as needed.

  • Develop strong relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators to successfully work collaboratively across teams in support of the unit’s vision to enhance Charlotte Athletics.

  • Regularly update and manage team-specific pages on Charlotte49ers.com

  • Coordinate interview requests, as needed and appropriate, for student-athletes and coaches

  • Develop a content plan for assigned team social media accounts, in collaboration with the overall Content Team, to effectively elevate the brand of the assigned programs and integrate with revenue-generating partners, where appropriate.

  • Coordinate with Content Team creators to capture content for use across Charlotte Athletics’ digital platforms including website, social media, podcasts, etc.

  • Develop and write, where appropriate, feature stories to enhance fan appreciation and knowledge of Charlotte student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

  • Serve as the contact for the Strategic Communications team at home events of assigned sports programs.

  • Travel with teams, when necessary, for brand enhancement and event coverage for away events.

Minimum Experience / Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing or a related degree.

  • A minimum 1-3 years of experience in college athletics, professional sports, or at a PR agency, or other communications division in education or private sector.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

  • Masters degree in a related field.

  • A proven track record of managing multiple programs and execution from concept through implementation and measurement.

  • Self-motivated and able to multitask/manage multiple priorities.

  • Broad knowledge of current events, industry, and business news.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including game nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Strong attention to details.
