Position Description:

Job Purpose and Scope:

Responsible for assisting with the origination and structuring of commercial real estate loans across a broad range of property types (multi-family, office, retail, industrial, hospitality, mixed-use, special use, land development, single-family lot development) and markets, with sophisticated sponsorship and deal structures. Coordinates closely with Originations Team of MMCRE in analyzing new opportunities as well as with the Bank’s Loan Closing and Asset Management Departments in the closing of credit facilities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review proposed lending opportunities with potential Bank customers.

  • Analyze property operations (historical and projected) and, if applicable, assesses the adequacy of the proposed budget and contractor strength.

  • Analyze the creditworthiness and management capabilities of sponsor/guarantor.

  • Prepare term sheets that communicate accurately the terms under which Bank would close a lending facility.

  • Perform due diligence on new loan requests.

  • Review market analysis and appraisals to determine whether the report accurately reflects the knowledge of the property's operations and market position.

  • Interact with the Loan Closing and Asset Management Departments to ensure proper execution of the loan closing and booking process and transitioning of the loan to servicing phase, including corresponding with third parties, borrowers, and guarantors to ensure loans are closed correctly and timely.

  • Communicate in a timely, consistent, and professional manner with clients and internal/external parties to manage expectations effectively, gather relevant underwriting information and effectively overcome issues that arise during the underwriting process and closing process.

  • Regularly exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of the other essential job functions.

  • Maintain good punctuality and attendance to work.

  • Follow Bank policy, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various types of real estate.

  • Ability to problem-solve using analytical, logistical, and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Skill in using computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ARGUS.

  • Ability to articulate the strengths, weaknesses and issues related to a transaction, in both written and oral presentations.

  • Ability to multi-task and work well with exacting deadlines.

  • Ability to work under general supervision.

Position Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or business, or commensurate work experience, required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Prior work experience presenting real estate investment and/or lending opportunities to an investment board or committee preferred.
