Assistant Vice President / Vice President– Sponsor Finance

Note: Actual Job Title Level (AVP or VP) will be based on relevant/overall experience

Byline Sponsor Finance (“BSF”), a division of Byline Bank headquartered in Chicago, IL, with offices in Charlotte, NC works to provide senior secured cash flow loans to private equity backed lower middle market companies throughout the United States. BSF focuses its efforts on companies that generate EBITDA between $2 million and $10 million. Products support the acquisition, recapitalization and growth investment efforts of private equity firms operating in the lower middle market.

Position: Assistant Vice President or Vice President – Sponsor Finance Group

Location: Chicago, IL or Charlotte, NC

Position Description:

The Assistant Vice President or Vice President will lead and manage all aspects of due diligence including review of deal materials, preparation of screening memos, underwriting of new transactions, financial modeling, independent research, and legal negotiation.

This individual will manage monitoring the portfolio which includes spreading monthly financials, performing trend analysis, analyzing financial performance, interacting with company management, and presenting monthly reports.

The ideal candidate has prior cash flow lending experience with a strong understanding of credit underwriting, deal structuring, and can demonstrate an ability to balance detail with broader issues, in both written and oral communication.

This individual will be able to draw thoughtful and relevant conclusions based on their analysis of new transactions and existing portfolio performance and can effectively communicate their findings.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Independently lead and manage all aspects of the deal underwriting and approval process from inception to close.

  • Manage and oversee deal team output to ensure quality, accuracy, and efficacy.

  • Present transactions and investment recommendations or proposals.

  • Represent BSF in sponsor, management, and lender meetings and due diligence calls.

  • Work with business development officers to propose creative and competitive deal structures to win mandates.

  • Negotiate legal documentation (term sheets, proposal letters, and credit agreements) directly with sponsors.

  • Develop and maintain the syndication process on transactions in which Byline is leading the senior financing.

  • Oversee the on-going credit analysis, reporting, and credit activities (amendments, recapitalizations, acquisitions, restructurings, etc.) of existing portfolio companies.

  • Support the team’s efforts to attract, develop, and retain best-in-class origination, underwriting, and portfolio management talent.

  • Mentor and develop junior staff’s credit and analytical skills.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a preferred concentration in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required for this role. Advanced degree (MBA) or finance or accounting designation such as CFA, CPA, preferred.

  • 7-10 years Leveraged Finance, Private Equity, Investment Banking or related financial transaction services experience with strong credit capabilities

  • Knowledge of credit policies, procedures, and terminology. Formal credit training a plus.

  • Thorough understanding of complex financial modeling

  • Strong finance and accounting skills along with a close attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to coordinate and communicate with various internal departments across the bank as well as outside partners

  • Ability to interact on a direct basis with financial sponsors, junior capital providers and intermediaries

  • Highly collaborative and flexible working in a team and client environment with ability to form good relationships internally and externally

  • Understanding of loan documentation, legal negotiation and credit structures

  • Prior cash flow lending experience or transaction accounting experience

  • Self-starter with strong work ethic and highest level of integrity

  • Ability to travel

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office equipment. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

This role allows for a combination of remote and in-office work, with occasional visits to the office based on business needs. Specific in-office days may vary and will be discussed during the interview process.

Compensation & Benefits:

Byline Bank offers competitive industry rate salary bands with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals. We regularly review and adjust our compensation structure as needed to ensure equity across teams and levels.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is between $115,000 - $170,000.

In addition, Byline provides benefits including medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, paid time off and much more! Depending on the specific role, compensation may also include discretionary bonuses and other benefit programs. The actual compensation package may vary based on factors such as skill set, experience level, and candidate's location.
