    Internship Overview:

    As a Project Management intern, you will assist in managing construction projects and may be assigned responsibility for specific tasks within the project management process as experience and skills are developed. This may include project development, cost, schedule, communications, or risk management for smaller projects, material readiness reviews, creation of project reports and project meeting leadership. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals pursing a career in construction project management to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

What You’ll Do :

The Project Management Intern will assist an experienced Duke Energy PM in all aspects of project management:

  • Provide leadership, oversight, direction, delegation, and coordination with various internal and external organizations providing services to the project (Development, Engineering, Project Controls, Estimating, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Legal, Environmental, Safety, Quality, Operations, Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Regulatory, Security, etc.).

  • Guide matrixed members of the team daily. Interface with functional leaders of matrixed team members regarding placement, development, and conflict resolution.

  • Establish and maintain communications among project/programs stakeholders and structure, lead, and/or assist in project related meetings to ensure open communication between team members, key stakeholders, and management.

  • Prepare, communicate, or report monthly project status, kickoff meetings, weekly and monthly communication.

    Basic Qualifications  

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Project Management

  • Must not graduate prior to August 2025

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 

  • Valid driver’s license

    Desired Qualifications  

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite software

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Demonstrated ability to provide the quantity and quality of work necessary to reach an accomplishment.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making.

  • Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goal.

  • Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.

  • Demonstrated tenacity by remaining persistence in the face of difficulty.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in use of computers, software, and engineering applications.

  • Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry.

  • Previous engineering work experience

    Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the summer.

  • Potential for travel to project locations

  • Depending on work location, exposure to mechanical, electrical, noisy and/or other hazards

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.), as needed.

  • Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations. In office 2-3 days per week.

  • Housing stipend available when applicable

  • Internship summer session length is 10-12 weeks
