Job Summary
Compass has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Accountant to join the Indirect Tax team. This role is primarily responsible for property tax and unclaimed property reporting, including data analysis, return review, account reconciliations and internal control compliance. This position serves as a sector-facing contact within the tax team and will liaise with our third-party service providers. A successful candidate will have strong accounting, analytical, verbal and communication skills and will demonstrate an ability to work cross functionally and develop solid business relationships with colleagues at various levels across the organization. Experience with property tax or unclaimed property reporting is preferred but candidates with strong accounting, analytical and research skills are a must.
This role is based at the Charlotte headquarters and offers a hybrid work schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, review and reconcile asset and other supporting schedules for personal property tax reporting
Analyze financial statements, balance sheets, and data from various functional teams to ensure compliance with unclaimed property reporting requirements.
Coordinate and review property tax and unclaimed property filings with our third-party administrators, including management of data housed on web-based platforms
Reconcile tax liability accounts monthly
Identify best practices within the role and strive to improve processes and efficiencies
Support business development efforts and growth, including new business and mergers and acquisition activity
Assist with special projects as needed
Qualifications:
4-year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Tax required
CPA or CMI or other certification preferred
3+ years of progressive accounting or property tax experience in industry or public accounting
Strong accounting and analytical skills with ability to solve complex problems while reviewing large amounts of data
Ability to identify trend through data analytics
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and an excellent customer service focus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, especially Excel
Experience with SAP, Hyperion, Essbase or similar reporting tools preferred
