Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The William States Lee College of Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites exceptionally qualified candidates for a 9-month non-tenure track faculty

position at Teaching Assistant / Associate Professor / Professor of Practice / Lecturer ranks in Fire Safety fields, with an anticipated start date of January or August 2025.

The Fire Safety program is seeking teaching professionals who are interested in a full-time academic career in teaching and service in Fire Safety, Prevention, Protection, and Fire Service Administration/Leadership. Candidates with diverse industry and practical experience in one or more of the following areas: Fire Safety, Prevention and Protection, Investigations and Forensics, Hazardous Materials Management, Risk Management, Emergency Management, Fire Service Leadership, Public Administration and Policy are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties would include: Teaching, Curriculum and Instructional Development

– Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work. Outreach, Creative, and Other Professional Activities

– This position will serve the Department in outreach, student recruiting, as well as student organization supervision and connections with Industry. Service to University, the Public, and the Profession

– All faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline for the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor

Master’s degree in the teaching discipline for the rank of Professor of Practice or Lecturer.

A minimum of 5 years of practical industry experience relevant to the target course topics is desired.

Teaching experience, preferable with a demonstrated record of effective teaching in higher education and 10+ years of industry experience with expertise in the target course topics.
