Job Description

BACKGROUND:Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 25 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK:Client Voice is a new initiative to recognize the expertise of lived experience of resettled refugees in our community and reflects IRC’s commitment to giving clients greater influence over program design and delivery. The Client Voice Initiative uses inclusive client engagement strategies to maintain a two-way communication approach of collecting feedback, taking action when possible, and circling back to clients to let them know the impacts of their feedback with an overarching goal to amplify the voices and power of newcomers by centering their experience to inform best practices. The intern will assist the Client Voices Coordinator with various aspects of client outreach and coordination related to the goal of creating opportunities for IRC clients to provide feedback about their experience of the IRC resettlement programs in Charlottesville.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Research best practices and methods for storytelling and community leadership development.

•Assist with outreach to potential client participants for client experience surveys, conversation groups and client advisory committee.

•Assist with tracking and organization of data from multiple client feedback channels.

•Assist with coordination of client meetings and client conversation groups.

•Research and review text message platforms to explore and support enhanced client communications plan.

•Provide notetaking for client conversation groups.

Qualifications

•Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

•Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable.

•Interested in supporting accessible, respectful partnerships with clients.

•Must be available on occasional nights and weekends when needed for client meetings.

•While a personal vehicle is not required, it would be helpful on occasion.

This position is unpaid and reports to the Client Voices Coordinator.
