University of Virginia Director of the Metabolomics, Lipidomics Shared Resource in Charlottesville, Virginia

UVA is seeking a Mass Spectrometry Scientist for a position of the Director of Metabolomics, Lipidomics Shared Resource Core Facility (MLSR). The core Director will be expected to work closely with the Associate Dean for Research Infrastructure and the Office of Research Core Administration to ensure integration of the MLSR Core with other institutional research resources as well as the effective and efficient management of the core. Director will be responsible for performing services in area of metabolomics and lipidomics in support of UVA researchers. The candidate must have technical and practical knowledge of mass spectrometry as well as protein and small molecule chemistry. The ideal candidate will show proven record of excellence and leadership.

Primary job duties include:

  • Providing leadership and day-to-day operation of the core’s service laboratory

  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • Drafting grant applications for the acquisition of instrumentation

  • Providing services to researchers, preparing and analyzing small molecules

  • Developing of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry method

  • Data analysis

  • Consulting with investigators in research design and drafting text for publications and grant applications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • PhD, preferrably in cancer biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or pharmacology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two to five years’ experience beyond graduate training. Postdoctoral training will suffice for experience depending on the expertise and skills acquired during the training period.

  • Strong skillsets in LC/MS approaches are required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be organized and meticulous in record keeping

  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with a variety of highly motivated researchers from various disciplines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required

  • Motivated to learn new skills in a research

  • General computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
