University of Virginia Pharmacy Technician - Transplant Transitions of Care Specialist in Charlottesville, Virginia

This role steps out of the typical pharmacy technician dispensing role to work directly with patients and the care team to ensure medications are available, and affordable, for transplant patients prior to discharge. This role also rotates through the transplant clinic space to ensure transplant infusion medications are ordered and received in a timely fashion.
Typical duties of the transplant technician specialist include all of the following for admitted and clinic transplant patients:
complete thorough medication histories for transplant patients
ensure outpatient prescriptions are billed appropriately for the transplant population to reduce out of pocket costs to patients
complete prior authorizations, peer-to-peers as required by the patient's insurance
overrides
patient assistance programs
coordinate care with outpatient and specialty pharmacies as needed
supply chain management of white-bagged medications for transplant infusion
meet with clinic patients to assist in reduction of out-of-pocket costs or other compliance barriers (assist with enrolling patients in automatic refills or home delivery programs)
This role is scheduled dayshift M-F and is best for a technician that is motivated to complete work independently to ensure patients care needs are met.
Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
Participates in the training of new employees.
Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $20.68 - $32.05 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience required
License/Certification: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs.
