University of Virginia Surgical Biomedical Technician in Charlottesville, Virginia

Key member of the Perioperative Services team, directly supporting cases in the OR, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, hosting in-services for new team members, and coordinating a host of activities that directly and indirectly support the success of day-to-day operations.

  • Assists in the coordination of equipment, vendor assistance, and medical supplies for Surgical Navigation / Image Guided Cases in the Main OR.

  • Sets-up equipment in room and assists in troubleshooting on day-of-surgery issues

  • Provides in-room support of cases, when needed.

  • Hosts in-services (e.g. on patient positioning, proper use of tables)

  • Seeks additional training and certifications as field progresses and actively supports providers in the technical operationalization of innovative approaches to surgical navigation

  • Builds positive working relationship with key vendors and internal partners: IR, SPD/CS, Clinical Engineering. Contributes positively to team dynamic.

  • Supports for routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and calibration of medical equipment

  • Supports clinical engineering to maintain accurate records of the life cycle of major equipment

  • Supports Senior Biomed Tech and Nurse Manager to maintain inventory of ancillary equipment (e.g. skull clamps, stereotactic frames, etc) to ensure items are in good repair, appropriately cleaned/stored, and kept at appropriate par levels.

  • Performs quality assurance and accident investigation for medical technology when issues arise.

  • Complies with all safety rules, codes, practices, and policies

  • Facilitates effective use of time, people, materials and financial resources.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $26.76 - $42.82 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associate’s Degree or CBET, Microsoft, Medical Device Manufacturer Certification, etc.

Experience: 2-3 years relevant experience

Licensure: Valid Virginia Driver's license required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires sitting and standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/climbing ladders, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive) and walking (distance: 1 – 2 miles/day), Repetitive motion: computer keyboard and driving/traveling. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, infectious disease and dust.
