Trinity Health Food Service Worker - Full Time in Chelsea, Michigan

Starting at $15.50 per hour and up

Position Summary: The Food Service Worker position is responsible for a variety of activities involved in the preparation, processing, presentation, and delivery of food for the organization.

This is a Full Time position with rotating shifts and working every other weekend. As a food service worker you will be trained to work in each station within the cafeteria, kitchen and dish room.

Qualifications: Ability to read, write and follow instructions. Basic math skills are required. Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend and stoop, sort and pick up repetitively dishes and silverware. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. on an intermittent basis. Able to work in a fast paced environment. One year of related experience and/or training in a hospital or commercial kitchen preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job.

Demonstrates self-directed learning.

Demonstrates complete understanding of all policies and procedures concerning the hospital and department operations.

Performs all tasks as outlined in the SJMC Service Excellence Standards.

Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)

Tactfully and appropriately handles difficult situations.

Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional behavior.

Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.

Maintains confidentiality (hospital, employee, patient, etc.) consistent with hospital policy and regulatory requirements.

Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Must be able to bend and stoop, sort and pick up repetitively dishes and silverware. Must be able to work quickly with both hands.

Must be able to read patient menu when on tray line.

Performs a variety of food service support functions:

  • Delivers meals, supplies, and equipment to other departments of the hospital

  • Prepares the dish room for washing service ware

  • Prepares noon and evening beverage production

  • Assembles all items needed to run breakfast and lunch trayline

  • Serves patient breakfast and lunch meals

  • Cleans tray line work station after meals served

  • Retrieves patient meal carts, disassembles, washes dishes, and restocks

  • Prepares patient nourishment carts

  • Assists #3 position by cutting and packaging desserts

  • Completes shift end cleaning assignments, checks out with supervisor

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

The physical activities of this position involve:

  • Frequent, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, grasping, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion.

  • Pushing delivery carts 10-15 times/8 hour shift.(8-17 lb push/pull force)

  • Pushing sweep carts 4-5 times/8 hour shift.(1 – 25 lb push/pull force)

  • Able to walk 8-12 miles/shift.

The essential sensory and communicative activities include:

  • Feeling, seeing, speaking, hearing, smelling.

An individual in this position will be required to lift or carry weight in the following range:

  • 10 lbs.

  • < 35 lbs.

  • Actual push/pull measurements range 1 lb force to 35 lb lift. (Complete push pull measurements for specific tasks available in Food Service Office or Employee Health)

An individual in this position may be exposed to the following environmental conditions when performing the duties of this job:

  • Rare exposure to blood and body fluids

  • Extreme heat (over 100 degrees)

  • Extreme cold (below 32 degrees)

  • Physical Hazards (e.g. electric current)

  • Chemical hazards (cleaning fluids)

Scheduling expectations:

This position may require, based on the needs of the department:

  • Flexible hours

  • On-call time

  • Overtime

  • Working holidays and/or weekends

  • Release time
