Job Description

Assistant Director, Student Governance and Organizations

The Assistant Director of Student Governance and Organizations will advise and support student government and student organizations around program development that directly impacts student involvement and engagement within a Jesuit, Catholic context. The Assistant Director will support the Associate Director in serving as the primary advisors and liaison between student government representatives and university administration and services. This position will also support the management of O’Connell House operations and Senior Week programming. This position is located in the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) which includes the following functions: student organization advising; leadership development, student government and student programming. The Office also supports major events including Senior Week, Weeks of Welcome, Marathon Monday, and Homecoming.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing a portfolio of student government councils and registered student organizations in their event planning, financial transactions, and goal implementation;

  • Overseeing management of programming budgets, including the oversight of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) budget of over $350K;

  • Overseeing large scale programs such as Senior Week programs and large-scale high profile campus events sponsored out of the Undergraduate Government of Boston College (UGBC) including concerts, formals, speakers, “Showdown,” Mile-21 programming, and more;

  • Supervising undergraduate student assistants;

  • Monitoring and managing budgetary controls and accountability for various programs, including the Senior Week, O’Connell House Programming, and UGBC budget of over $350,000;

  • Contributing to the greater goals of the division and the university. These contributions (outside of your primary work area) may include supporting division and university-wide initiatives, staffing events, and serving on committees as needed;

  • Collaborating with event management, risk management, Robsham Theater Arts Department, business service center, and other campus partners to support student government and student organization programming and initiatives; and

  • Supporting programs and initiatives that may take place on weekends and outside of normal business hours; and evening and weekend work to support student programming.

Each staff member in the Division of Student Affairs is expected to support division and university-wide initiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $63,800 to $79,750; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required

  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated progressive student affairs experience, preferably in the development of student organization development, student programs and/or activities, and student group advising

  • Understanding and supportive of the Jesuit Catholic mission of Boston College

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student leadership and/or programming

  • Comprehensive understanding of current student development and learning theories and advising practices

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Strong leadership, judgment, managerial, organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and motivational skills

  • Demonstrated financial management skills

  • Strong writing and public speaking skills

  • Commitment to professional development

  • Experience in a position that clearly demonstrates the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
