Position summary:

Support the engineering, construction, project management, and maintenance of utility transmission and distribution facilities. Develop, document, and implement standards and processes impacting the reliable operation of utility transmission lines. Create specifications and design details for transmission and distribution projects, as assigned.

Pay Range:This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.

Engineer I:$69,350 - $104,000

Engineer II:$82,550 - $123,800

Senior Engineer:$92,500 - $152,450

Lead Engineer:$100,650 - $166,050

Principal Engineer:$110,900 - $183,100

Reporting Relationship:Manager, Electrical Engineering

Location:Rapid City, South Dakota, Pueblo, Colorado,orCheyenne Wyoming

Essential Functions:

• Provide design and engineering oversight for major capital transmission line projects.

• Create detailed engineering reports, standards, drawing packages, cost estimates, and material lists for the construction and maintenance of transmission line facilities.

• Develop operational standards for distribution line design and provide engineering support to Operations and Construction Planning teams.

• Assist with the planning, design, project management, and construction of assigned transmission and distribution projects.

• Support transmission line operations and maintenance activities including aerial patrols, ground line patrols, pole inspection programs, and hazard remediation. Assist with the acquisition and analysis of new LiDAR data to maintain compliance with company procedures.

• Provide engineering support for third-party pole attachments and joint use specifications.

• Provide engineering support in addressing unplanned or emergency work on the transmission and distribution system.

• Anticipate and solve a range of problems using standard procedures. Demonstrate agility and learn to develop solutions and implement actions.

• Maintain a safe work environment through proficient knowledge of Black Hills Energy's safety policies, procedures, and stop work authority.

• Complete all assigned training tasks and take initiative to seek out continuous improvement and development opportunities.

• Be responsive to internal and external customers and establish positive, professional relationships throughout Black Hills Energy.

• Adapt and contribute to department and company goals and priorities to address business and operational needs.

What You'll Need:

Engineer I

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering

Engineer II

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering

• Minimum of (1) one year of relevant experience

Senior Engineer

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering

• Minimum of (4) four years of relevant experience

Lead Engineer

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering

• Minimum of (7) seven years of relevant experience

Principal Engineer

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering

• Minimum of (12) twelve years of relevant experience

What Is Desired Or Can Be Taught:

• At least one year of utility engineering experience preferred

• Utility engineering or related power field experience preferred

• Transmission or distribution line design experience using PLS-CADD or other software preferred

• General knowledge of utility transmission system design philosophy and equipment operation.

• Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code and electric utility industry safety work practices.

• Understanding of electric transmission and distribution drawings and schematics.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in line design software and Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.

• Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Strong verbal and written communications skills.

• Strong project management skills and the ability to organize, document, and manage multiple projects concurrently within scope, budget, and schedule.

• Self-motivated with a desire to learn diverse topics and skills.

• Basic knowledge of Black Hills Energy's support functions, including but not limited to Finance, Accounting, IT, and Supply Chain

• Perform work in close proximity to energized electrical facilities.
