The MS in Applied Data Science program is a professional graduate program within the Data Science Institute (DSI) and Physical Sciences Division (PSD) at the University of Chicago. The DSI executes the University of Chicago\'s bold, innovative vision of Data Science as an evolving discipline; the PSD explores new frontiers in the physical and mathematical sciences to lead the world in inquiry and impact. The purpose of the MS in Applied Data Science program is to advance the careers of diverse students for technical- and/or management-focused careers in data science. Students may apply for full- or part-time admissions for the In-Person or Online program, and admitted students benefit from a dedicated, full-service team in support of robust student and alumni outcomes. Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Career Services will join a mid-sized team of full-time staff experts in instructional services/innovation, enrollment management, student affairs, and career services/external partnerships. A cadre of industry-expert faculty and instructors also support the success of the Applied Data Science program.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of career services offered by the MS in Applied Data Science program-including but not limited to tailored programs and events, career advising appointments with students, outcomes measurement, and differentiated support for the program\'s part-time and full-time In-Person and Online students. The new hire will also work collaboratively with the Data Science Institute, other PSD master\'s programs, and UChicagoGRAD to offer a comprehensive portfolio of general and subject specific career resources.

This position is eligible for a partially remote work schedule and is based in the downtown Chicago NBC Tower campus. This position reports to the Director of External Partnerships and Career Development.

Responsibilities

Advises and counsels students by empowering them to make decisions associated with their career goals and objectives.

Assesses individual situations and circumstances to create, implement and monitor student career plans.

Implements/provides personalized counseling and advising that focuses on self- assessment, research, job and internship search strategies, reflection, and strategic decision making.

Reviews and makes suggestions to improve resumes, covers letters, and other relevant job documentation.

Creates, updates, and maintains student facing course management websites, social networking sites, chat rooms, etc. that describe, highlight, and explain resources and services.

Assists with maintenance and management of required Career Course.

Manages planning and arrangement of programs - meetings, workshops, trainings, events, etc. designed to provide information, promote resources and to build internal and external relationships.

Recruits, trains, and assigns faculty/instructors to teach career related programs.

Supervises creation of components, including curriculum development, lectures, conferences, and seminars.

Facilitates and leads professional workshops related to resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, social media presence, and other related areas.

Helps develop and gives input to the career curriculum which is required of all students who wish to have complete access to programs and services related to internships, research opportunities and full-time employment post-graduation.

Enh nces and collects career insights from the Career Course.

Works, with minimal guidance, to write timely and effective articles about career management topics for a variety of student publications. Conceptualizes, develops, and delivers career management programming and published materials.

Connects students with alumni and professionals for employment opportunities.

Includes alumni in programming and events as appropriate.

Collaborates with the MS in Applied Data Science Assistant Director of External Partnerships.

Makes career plan recommendations, partnering with internal/external constituencies and resources that meet student needs.

Collaborates with student affairs, academic departments, student organizations and administrative offices to develop programs and publicize opportunities spanning a broad range of industries and geographies.

Engages with associations, organizations, alumni, and employers to encourage experiential education and professional development.
