Get your hard hat ready. We’re not just renovating the travel experience – we’re renovating our physical spaces too. And our Corporate Real Estate team is on the front lines of procuring, designing and developing spaces at all our hubs, stations and city locations across the world. From airport affairs and business services to planning and development, this team is responsible for all our leases and major construction and renovation projects, system wide.

Key Responsibilities:

Leads Planning and Development's Business Services team in the management of project portfolios, controls, processes, financial strategies, and labor resources. Coordinates the development and management of capital and facilities plans, project demand management, development as well as project control and contract management. Responsible for creating and reporting on project, program, portfolio critical metrics. Also includes high level reporting and partner management on behalf of CREE departmental leaders.

  • Project Governance and Risk Management

  • Ensures the development and governance of United's Project Controls process, artifacts and guidelines, and the creation/implementation of corresponding CRE-specific Project Lifecycle and processes

  • Leads the effort for continuous improvement to process workflows and templates including Cost Management, Schedule Management, Risk Management, and Intake/Demand Management.

  • Ensures quality and accuracy throughout the project life cycle with governance over Contracts, Risk Mitigation, and Insurance requirements; oversight of data integrity including invoice reviews, regular financial analysis, schedule validation

  • Participating in procurement processes as needed; responsible for the development of all aspects of training and change management of processes and procedures

  • Leads all aspects of Financial and Project Controls

  • Provides oversight of project controls team, which includes project budget, estimates, schedules, forecast and contract compliance

  • Provides direction and oversight of Capital Plan Forecast processes and project execution forecast accuracy

  • Ensure that projects meet defined metrics

  • Responsible and accountable for clear, accurate, consistent project reporting (weekly, monthly, and quarterly)

  • Leads effective teams; uses technical knowledge and experience combined with business insight to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s objectives and initiatives; is solution oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

  • Models integrity, possesses self-awareness; nurtures an environment of accountability; accountable for providing constant and clear communication to their Team, Leadership, Stakeholders and Customers; mentors and manages a team that is empowered and engaged.

  • Establishes individual goals that align with departmental objectives

  • Responsible in developing individual career development and training plans with leader

  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • Conversant in aviation business terminology, design and engineering techniques, airport airfield designations, understand design and construction management process and vernacular, understanding standard methodologies of Portfolio, Program and Project Management

  • 10+ years Planning, Design and Construction Experience or related finance experience; plus, minimum 5+ years' experience in large program management

  • Experience managing a team of direct reports

  • Executive Presentation Skills, Project Management, Negotiation, Financial Forecasting, Construction Project Controls and Accounting, Financial Analysis

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • This position is based in Chicago and follows a hybrid scheduling model with a combination of 3 days per week in-office and remote work

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree or related experience

  • PMP Certification

  • Background in construction safety, capital improvement planning for facilities, Facility Management, Aviation Master Planning, possess understanding of bond financing process and requirements

  • Knowledge of FAA, ICAO, IATA standards, guidelines and requirements that relate to planning and design of airport infrastructure and facilities

  • Preferred experience with Project Controls, Contract Management

  • Risk Analysis and Mitigation, OCIP and other Insurance programs

  • Experience in alternate funded projects such as bond funded

  • Peer-to-peer training new process and tools
