Director, Insurance & Risk Management – Chicago, IL

This is an exempt level position

Position Summary:

Reporting to ADM’s Deputy General Counsel and working closely with ADM’s Treasury team, the Director of Insurance and Risk Management will serve as owner of ADM’s corporate insurance program, including managing all insurance policies, leading annual insurance renewals, directing claims processes, overseeing ADM’s wholly-owned captive insurance company, liaising with ADM’s Operations team on loss controls, and serving as the subject matter expert on insurance. This role provides the opportunity to enable ADM’s commercial success and lead a team of high-performing professionals and expert third-party providers, including brokers, claims administrators, risk engineers, and other insurance professionals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of insurance professionals in designing and implementing the most effective insurance program to meet ADM’s commercial needs.

  • In partnership with internal stakeholders, identify existing and emerging insurable risks and design insurance solutions for those risks.

  • Lead all operations of the insurance group with a focus on enhanced efficiency and process optimization.

  • Ensure timely and effective renewal of all existing insurance programs (property, casualty, marine, D&O, etc).

  • Drive execution of ADM’s insurance strategy through effective partnerships with third parties, including brokers and insurers.

  • Manage all aspects of ADM’s wholly-owned captive, including leading relationships with the captive’s external captive managers, regulators, and rating agency.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior experience as Director of Insurance (or equivalent) at large company with a wholly-owned captive.

  • Experience leading mid-size (10-15 person) internal teams and external service providers, including brokers.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, economics, insurance or business administration.

  • Outstanding advocacy, presentation, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and positively influence outcomes.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment handling multiple competing tasks simultaneously to closure.

  • Highly motivated, proactive, self-disciplined and team-oriented.
