Position Summary:
Reporting to the AVP, Tax, the Tax Director will lead one or more key areas including: tax-related SEC financial reporting, statutory tax reporting and/or federal and state income tax compliance. The Tax Director will act as a primary liaison with non-tax areas such as Investments, Actuarial or Human Resources. The Tax Director will work cross-functionally with other Finance and Accounting professionals and be a “go-to” person when it comes to advising and ensuring conformity with applicable tax laws and financial reporting standards. The Tax Director will participate in, and support, tax planning, business integration and M&A activities, as well as partner with other tax teammates in technology adaption.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead SEC tax reporting, statutory tax reporting and/or income tax compliance
Represent the Tax Department with other functional areas
Partner with tax team members in tax planning
Develop and manage relevant key performance indicators (KPIs)
Manage special projects, including M&A, integrations and system conversions
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 8+ years of public accounting and/or in-house corporate tax department experience (or equivalent)
Advanced working knowledge of ASC 740 and SSAP 101
Advanced knowledge of corporate and insurance company taxation
Strong working abilities with Excel, tax-specific technologies (e.g., Corptax and OneSource) and other technologies (e.g., Tableau, Alteryx, etc.)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly effective interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills, with an ability to address complex tax matters in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals
Proven process-improvement and documentation track record
Master’s degree in Tax, Accounting, or related field, preferred
Licensed CPA, preferred
Ability to analyze statutes, regulations and guidance and then make recommendations and take action
Experience enabling growth, driving operational effectiveness, managing risk and improving the quality, speed and availability of data relevant to tax matters
Track record in prioritizing competing demands, sound decision-making and delivering results on tight timelines
Experience working in a matrix environment, influencing strategy and achieving goals by working with people across the organization
Detail-oriented, organized and possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills, with an ability to address complex tax matters in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Occasional travel is possible.
The selected candidate will work a hybrid schedule which will require weekly reporting to our Chicago, IL office.
