Summary In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Mitigation) for the Regional Offices, Region Five, Mitigation Division, FloodPlain Management & Insurance Branch. The ideal candidate will possess the skills and abilities in floodplain management requirements and or insurance aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), possesses exceptional customer service, oral and written communication, public speaking, and administrative skills. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist (Mitigation) for Region Five, Mitigation Division. Typical assignments include: Coordinating internally with Region 5's Hazard Mitigation Assistance Community Resilience (HMACR) Branch and other FEMA branches and programs for proper implementation of floodplain management requirements as a condition of funding, primarily FEMAs Flood Mitigation Assistance Program. Supporting the Regional Flood Insurance Liaison in accessing insurance data for repetitive loss data and Community Rating System participation. Providing training and technical support to participating National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) community and state officials in the implementation of their floodplain management programs and regulations in both non-disaster and disaster environments. Participating in public meetings to promote the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), provide flood risk awareness and mitigation techniques to reduce the physical and financial impact of flood damages. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Exhibiting knowledge and experience with implementation of research on water resource regulations, policies, and procedures. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree - or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree -or- LL.B. or J.D., if related.
